EOTO Technology Presentations
My classmate's Facebook presentation was one technological advancement that caught my attention during the presentations. The fact that a young Mark Zuckerberg who was a sophomore founded Facebook while attending Harvard University intrigued me tremendously. Facebook was first created by Mark as a tiny online application called Face Smash. Using the Harvard student information, Face Smash was used to compare images of girls who attended Harvard that Mark received. A lot of males on campus used Face Smash, which made it popular. To increase popularity, Mark gradually extended the program to other schools. This presentation caught my attention because I have seen the movie social networking so many times. When hearing about Facebook from my classmate it made me realize how accurate the movie really is. Facebook has come a long way since its early days as a college-only social network. Today, it's one of the biggest platforms worldwide, connecting billions of people. While it remains popular for staying in touch with family and friends, it's also evolved to include features like a Marketplace for shopping and groups for connecting with people who share your interests.
"The Facebook," which eventually grew into the platform we know today. While Facebook is now popular mainly among our parents, it’s also branching into new products, like the Metaverse, which is gradually gaining traction. Over time, Mark has built the company into a social media giant by acquiring Instagram and other popular platforms. Overall I found this presentation particularly interesting because of Facebook's origin story.
